NextImg:Mammut Kento Pro High review

The Mammut Kento Pro High is the only boot in this test that gives a warmth rating temperature, which is down to -20 degrees Celsuis. Between this and the 3D memo foam cushioning, it does seem to run small, and I could only wear a thin sock which still felt a bit tight, so I would definitely size up if I was getting another pair. It is well waterproofed, and the insulation is very beneficial especially when you’re standing around.

B rating: B2 | Waterproofing: Goretex | Upper: Velours leather | Crampon welts: Heel welt | Sole: Vibram Hexa Tech | Sizes: UK 3.5-8.5 with half sizes | Men’s version: Yes

The ankle collar is flexible with a dropped back which makes this comfortable for walking in. The tongue is connected to the boot with an elastic gaiter which reduces the profile in the boot. The top of the tongue is fairly bulky though, which makes it hard to lace into the ankle collar.

The laces start almost at the toes, which is good for adjusting down to the forefoot, but along the foot the laces run through fabric loops rather than metal eyelets. This does make it harder to adjust, and while it might mean the laces last longer, I’m not sure how durable they will be. Once you get to the base of the ankle, the hooks are metal, and there’s a narrow cleat to lock your heel into place while still allowing your ankle some flexibility. There’s also a really big pull loop on the back for helping get the boot on, useful when it’s a tight fit!

The sole is Vibram with prominent lugs, but not as deep as some. There’s a climbing zone at the toe, and with a neat fit, it works well on steeper ground. The rubber rand runs right around the boot, giving lots of protection to the upper.

A great boot with a lot going for it, but worth sizing up, and possibly more suited to narrow feet.
