Aurora Borealis. The Northern Lights. “The Great Gig in the Sky”. Whatever you call it, the lights have been especially vibrant due to recent solar storms and clear skies. For a natural phenomenon that photographers travel long distances to capture, it was a sight to behold in our own backyard. Last night, anglers, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts from Maine to Maryland (and beyond) stepped outside to enjoy Mother Nature’s light show. In some places, the colors and patterns shimmering across the night sky were more pronounced than others, but whether you were looking up from New England or New Jersey, the sky was a spectacle.
Be on the lookout again tonight! You don’t need a fancy camera or a telescope to enjoy this rare occurrence. Just look up.
