In this week’s Striper Migration Report, OTW’s Assistant Editor Matt Haeffner is joined by Captain Brandon Weitz of Causeway Bait and Tackle in Wantagh, NY, and Captain Rob Taylor of Newport Sport Fishing Charters in Rhode Island. Matt and Brandon discuss the recent influx of bunker and 40- to 50-pound stripers on Long Island’s western South Shore, techniques for finding and building your own bite, and using heavier gear in case of unexpected run-ins with thresher sharks or bluefin tuna. Then, Matt and Rob talk about striper fishing in Narragansett Bay versus the ocean front, the buffet of bait from bunker and butterfish to squid and sand eels, and how to target stripers as they slowly settle into summer patterns throughout the month of June.

As bunker schools continue to pop up along the coast this week, big bass remain widespread from Jersey to Massachusetts, and 40-inch bass continue to flood southern Maine.
