In Week 12 of our Striper Migration Reports, OTW’s Assistant Editor Matt Haeffner is joined by OTW Columnist and kayak fishing guide, Josh Rayner in Connecticut, before talking with writer and host of Saltwater Underground, Nick Honachefsky, in New Jersey. Matt and Josh discuss the numerous and abundant bait sources currently spanning the Long Island Sound, fishing with XL flutter spoons and tiny snap jigs via kayak, and the prime time windows to target big bass as water temperatures rise. Then, Matt and Nick discuss the state of the migration in New Jersey after the June new moon, summer striper fishing techniques from both surf and boat, and the different types of forage that Jersey’s resident bass enjoy throughout the warmest months of the year.
Big stripers continue to press east and north around the tip of Long Island, anglers in Rhode Island see another wave of big bass move in from the ocean, and over-slot stripers prey on large schools of bunker, mackerel, sand eels and more from Buzzards Bay to Maine.
