Striped bass fishing is closed in all Maryland portions of the Chesapeake Bay until May 15. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources reported the spawn is pretty much over in the Choptank and some other major tributaries.

Some over-slot stripers began showing up on the ocean-side beaches of Maryland this week, evidence that the big Chesapeake stripers are on the move north.

Southern New Jersey has seen an influx of 40-inch-plus stripers, with fish appearing in the Delaware Bay, off the ocean front, and in the inlets and backwaters. In the Northern half of the state, more fish are appearing in the ocean, but the biggest bass remain concentrated in Raritan Bay.

Larger bass are starting to creep along the western South Shore, with more 30-inch fish spreading throughout Long Island Sound. More large fish will be entering the western Sound when spawning wraps up in the Hudson.

Rhode Island fishing fired up this week, with fish into the 30-inch class charging into Narragansett Bay. Larger stripers are moving into the Western Sound in good numbers, so it won’t be long until they move throughout Connecticut.

Migratory stripers are on Cape Cod, and have even been reported north of there, along the South Shore.
