Water temperatures dipped in some parts of the Northeast this week, thanks to unrelenting southwest winds. The spring striper migration is pretty much wrapped south of Long Island, while fishermen north of there are hoping for a final push of fish into their waters with the July new moon next week.

Thanks to everyone who following along with the 2024 Striper Migration! We’ll still be checking in every Thursday with our Fishing Forecasts, and on Wednesdays our Northeast Offshore Report. Also, there’s plenty of time to sign up for the Striper Cup and win great prizes from Costa, Yeti, Penn, Turtlebox, Bubba and more for catching, releasing, and photographing striped bass

The fishing for small stripers in Chesapeake Bay is good, but anglers are advised to watch the water temperatures when considering fishing for stripers. When the waters are too warm, stripers can struggle to recover from catch and release fishing.

A drop in water temperatures has revived the striper bite, particularly in the inlets, in Southern New Jersey this week. While most of the big migratory fish have pushed north, there are plenty of resident bass to look for all summer long.

The rivers, bay, and surf continue to produce bass to slot size in Ocean and Monmouth counties, likely resident fish that will be settling into summer patterns, feeding early and late in the day, and overnight.

Big stripers are feeding hard off Montauk, and many anglers recorded new personal bests off the East End this week. On the North Shore, the reefs are loaded with 20- to 25-pound fish, with some 30- to 40-pound fish keeping things interesting.

Bass entering summer patterns off Connecticut has meant more consistent fishing in Long Island Sound.

Striper fishing remains good both inside and outside Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island, while the Block Island trophy bass fishery is ramping up.

Cape Cod Bay is holding good numbers of larger bass, while the rest of the Cape was spotty. Anglers are holding out hope for a final good push of fish with the early July new moon.

Big bass are feeding in open water around the South Shore and Boston, and anglers finding ideal water temperatures in the low-60-degree range are finding big striped bass.

Big bass are settling into Maine, and it’s looking like another productive season at the Northern end of the Striper Migration.
