— In the summer of 2000, during the first year of the new century, some exciting news broke out. Dirt Wheels featured an all-new quad from a new ATV company on its front cover. This quad was revolutionary – the first-ever with a fuel-injected, 4-stroke engine featuring 4-valves and DOHC. It also boasted a high-tech aluminum frame. Moreover, it was the first high-performance quad that an American company developed and manufactured in the USA. You can still learn about this ground-breaking machine in the same way as everyone else did back then. Check out the front cover of the May 2000 issue of Dirt Wheels and read the first news on this machine inside.

Here is a view of the first production Cannondale FX400 that had some changes from the original prototype that was first shown.

So, whatever happened to the Cannondale quads and dirt bikes? Why did the company go bankrupt? It’s an interesting story and we’ll have a report on that in another post coming up. Stay tuned.

Also, if you own a Cannondale quad, please E-mail us photos and information about it for a followup article. Include your name, city & state and E-mail to [email protected]
