A DIRT WHEELS FAN WRITES: “I own a 2021 Kubota RTVX1100 Diesel. While it is the most-used vehicle on the farm, it seems to run slower and slower. I have changed the air filter, oil filters and the engine oil. It really made no difference. Any grades or hills, and this thing is so sluggish you could almost walk faster. I was hoping that you may have some insight as to why this is happening.” – Gerald Anderson, Homedale, ID.

SLUGGISH KUBOTA RTV X1100 DIESEL

OUR PRO ANSWER: Gerald, I think that there are two answers to your problem. The first is to check the gas pedal stop located under the pedal. It may have come loose and it worked itself up, preventing the pedal from opening the throttle fully. The second could be called “operator error”! Have you cleaned the muffler spark arrestor screen per the written instructions located directly under the muffler on the hydraulic cover plate? I am assuming not. What you are describing is text book plugged spark arrestor screen. Remove the 12mm spark arrestor screen retaining bolt. Next, remove the 14mm muffler retaining bracket bolts. Obtain a helper and a rubber mallet. Have your helper continually rev the motor while you beat the muffler with the hammer. Note the diesel soot that exits the muffler. Replace the retaining bolts and you should now notice an increase in acceleration and top speed.
