A DIRT WHEELS FAN WRITES: “I have a Polaris XP900 and recently I installed a Harbor Freight Roadshock 22-inch combo
Spot/Flood light bar on it. At the time I also purchased the accessory wiring kit to make
installation easier. Initially both functions worked but soon after only the flood lights were
working. The spot lights sometimes flicker or not come on at all. I can’t take it back. The local
store is out and don’t know when they will be getting more. So Boss, is there anything I can do
to get both functions back in operation?” – Glenn Reynolds, Binghamton, NY.

OUR PRO ANSWER: Well, since all functions worked and now they don’t would tell me all the LEDs are capable of
working. It is a problem of getting power through the control board to the LEDs. Removing the
back may reveal the problem. There may be something simple like a blown fuse or a wire loose
or broken or a bad solder joint. If everything looks OK in that area then look for a burnt
component like a driver relay or a resistor or a discolored spot on the control board. I have seen
electrical traces burn out and all that was required to repair the control board was a jumper wire
around the bad board section. Someone that is good with electronics could troubleshoot the
light bar’s simple control board easily. There is a good chance the manufacturer used off the
shelf components to populate the control board, and these components can be sourced from an
electronics supply house like Digikey or Mouser. Or you can punt and circular file the light and
purchase something else!
