A DIRT WHEELS FAN WRITES: I have a 2023 Arctic Cat Wildcat XX Black Hills and, I would like a muffler that is still as quiet as stock (to pass the sound checks) and greatly reduce the under-body temperatures generated by slow trail riding from the catalytic converter in the factory exhaust. Is it possible to have it all? And if there were no repacking of the muffler periodically that would be great too! If not then sound is the most important item because if I fail the sound check, I can’t even ride! – Larry Jarvis, Patterson, CA
OUR PRO ANSWER: Hmmm, slow trail riding with a Wildcat XX. This may be something you need to talk to your Therapist about! Your problem is too little air flow over the catalytic converter inside the factory muffler. One of the few mufflers that may meet all your requirements is the GGB Trail Muffler. See here: https://ggbexhaust.com/products/2018-2022-arctic-cat-wildcat-xx-1000-stainless-steel-muffler. They claim it meets the J1287 sound regulation. But it will be close and may be dependent on the calibration of the sound equipment and the examiner. All stainless steel and zero packing will meet your requirements and with the removal of the factory catalytic converter the under body temperatures should be considerably lower.
