NextImg:The Benefits of Owning an ATV: More Than Fun and Games | ATV Outdoors

Buying a four-wheeler is not only about going on thrill-seeking adventures on mountains, forests, and all sorts of trails. There are many other benefits of owning an ATV, such as the ability to navigate rough terrain, tow heavy loads, and even health benefits. So if you are looking for reasons to buy an ATV, you have arrived at the right place. I will break down the main benefits of buying a quad.

Here are the main benefits of owning an ATV:

ATVs come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you want to buy Yamaha’s biggest ATV or a smaller four-wheeler, there are many benefits that you will get. Getting to ride off-road is just one of them.

One of the biggest mistakes that people make when it comes to four-wheelers is to think of them as only vehicles that you use to ride on rugged terrains. There’s more to them. You can use ATVs for work or mount snow tracks and use them as a snowmobile. However, what’s important is that there are many other benefits to owning an ATV than joyrides. With that said, let’s go ahead and take a more in-depth look at the perks ATV riders have.

As everyone knows, four-wheelers excel when it comes to navigating difficult terrain. Thanks to this, ATVs are highly useful in rescue operations. For example, you can always help out a friend who got his vehicle stuck in the mud. That’s not all. You can also use the four-wheeler to transport people to safety in case of an emergency. No matter the type of terrain you are riding on, you can be sure that an ATV does it best.

The thing that surprised me the most when I first got into riding ATVs is that it’s not easy. While anyone can ride a quad, you will quickly get tired if you are not in shape. This is why riding ATVs is beneficial to your physical health. Even though you are not running, I promise that you will see a boost in your endurance if you go ATV riding every other week. Maneuvering off-road vehicles through rough terrain is intense enough to give you a full-body workout that will strengthen your muscles and improve your cardiovascular health

Not only riding ATVs is beneficial to your physical health, but it also boosts your mental health. You get to take a break from the busy office life and take a “mini vacation” into nature. It’s also important to highlight that riding ATVs is a great way to relieve stress. The thrill of the ride will reduce stress and anxiety, therefore, providing you with a sense of relaxation. One thing that I find interesting when I ride on challenging terrain is that having to focus on maneuvering the ATV helps me stay focused. It’s like all the problems in the back of my mind go away for that moment.

Another perk of owning an ATV is that you will get more vitamin D. You will need to get out of the house more in order to ride the four-wheeler. Therefore, you will spend more time under the sun and soaking up vitamin D. This is fantastic because vitamin D is essential for a healthy life. Vitamin D studies show that it helps regulate mood and reduce inflammation among other benefits.

ATVs are high maintenance and there is no way around it. However, ATV maintenance is much simpler and easier than the one required for bigger off-road vehicles such as 4×4 Jeep. Four-wheelers have fewer parts that require maintenance, and for most part, you can do it all from the comfort of your own garage. In fact, I have a full ATV oil filter guide that shows you what to do to ensure the engine runs smooth.

If you live on a farm or have family that needs help with yard work every now and then, investing in a four-wheeler is a great decision. ATVs can help you carry heavy loads such as hay, fertilize, and animal food. They will not only make work around the farm easier but also fun! From my experience, models like the Yamaha Grizzly or the Can-Am Outlander are built for heavy-duty work. You can read more about Yamaha vs Can-Am here. I highly recommend one of those models if you want a four-wheeler that can be used for more than fun rides.

Another useful benefit of owning an ATV is that you can remove snow really quickly. You can mount a plow blade (or even a snowblower) to your four-wheeler during the winter season and clear your driveways, sidewalks, and paths much easier. However, you should make sure that your ATV can mount snow plows before buying them.

What I really love about ATVs is that it makes it easier to make new friends. In general, people in the ATV community are always welcoming new members with open arms. You can find these communities by joining Facebook groups or by simply going to the local off-road parks where you can find group rides and events. I find that group rides provide a great opportunity to connect with other ATV riders who share the same passion as I do. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, joining a community of ATV owners will definitely make your off-road experiences more enjoyable.

I just went over the top 8 main benefits of owning an ATV. However, I can’t deny that there aren’t also some cons you should be aware of. Check out the list below to see the most important cons you should consider before buying a four-wheeler:

Ridings ATVs at fast speeds is fun and there is no doubt about it. On the flip side, we can’t overlook that there are some safety risks all ATV riders need to be aware of. If you ride the four-wheeler like a daredevil and are not careful, then you can get easily hurt. You can read my what not to do on an ATV guide to learn some important tips and tricks that will keep you safe on the trail.

#2 Noise Complaints

Do you plan to go off-road riding in the morning? Well, if that is the case, you should get ready for some noise complaints. In general, ATV engines are really loud and your neighbors will hear them. On the bright side of things, there is a way to prevent noise complaints. No, I am not talking about moving to a place without neighbors. I am talking about ATV silencers. They actually work!

This is pretty obvious, but I have to mention it. One of the most annoying cons of owning an ATV is limited storage space. There is so much that you can carry with you. You can use some clever storage ideas to increase carrying capacity, but it’s never going to be enough space to carry all you need for a camping trip.

As you can see, there are lots of benefits to owning an ATV. The ones I like the most are the benefits that impact my physical and mental health. It’s great to have a hobby, and if you choose off-road riding, your body will thank you for it. I also want to highlight that the people in off-road riding communities are always organizing events. Therefore, you will be able to make new friends who share the same passion in no time.
