SIG Charity Auction of M17 and M18 Paired Pistols
Rob W. 05.04.23
Sig Sauer is participating in a charity auction for veterans, offering a pair of serial number-matched MHS pistols (M17 and M18) in concurrence with 2023’s SOF (Special Operations Forces) week. This SIG charity auction marks the first time a U.S. Army-issued M18 has been available to the general public. These surplus handguns were manufactured under contract with the U.S. Army, according to the specifications of the Modular Handgun System (MHS).
The M17 and M18 entered active service in 2017, replacing the Beretta M9 and other pistols across the U.S. Armed Forces. The M17 is the full-sized model, with a barrel length of 120 mm (4.7 in), while the compact M18’s barrel comes in at 98 mm (3.9 in). Both are chambered in 9mm NATO and have a nice patina as a result of their field experience.

This SIG charity auction is in support of the Sterling Promise Foundation, a nonprofit that supports the health and welfare of Special Operations veterans. Scott Sterling was a veteran who served in the 75th Ranger Regiment Reconnaissance Detachment and 1st Special Forces Operation Detachment-Delta. He tragically passed away in April 2021 after a heroic battle with colorectal cancer. The serial numbers on the M17 (TF000041) and M18 (TC000041) represent Scott Sterling’s OTC (Operator’s Training Course) Class for SFOD-D selection. The Sterling Promise Foundation Mission:
Our mission is to improve the well-being of US Army Special Operations veterans.
We support the healthy emotional and physical lives of the veterans we serve by creating public awareness, inspiring meaningful donations, delivering useful information, and providing material benefits.
The auction will end on May 11th, synchronizing with the final day of SOF week, a week-long convention for the entire Special Operations community. You can find the details on the charity auction page if you want to check it out or bid yourself.
