AllOutdoor 500+ Round Review: Vudoo Gun Works Möbius Custom 1911
Adam Scepaniak 05.16.23
The Model 1911 handgun has been around for 100+ years and was invented by the venerable John Moses Browning – the Godfather of Firearms. This we all know. We also have all heard… “Two world wars!”… and lots of other one-liner zingers you could torpedo at others standing around the water cooler. So, to get our staff to make a double-take at a 1911 takes a lot because there are so many out there, but that is exactly what Vudoo Gun Works did to us at SHOT Show 2023. We nonchalantly were passing their booth and did a double-take with our gaze affixed on their new Möbius. Not only is it eye-catching in its curb appeal and price tag, but the more that the Vudoo staff explained it the more we wanted to shoot one. So, in today’s review we will explain our full experience with the Vudoo Gun Works Möbius Custom 1911. Let’s dive in!

When it comes to the Vudoo Gun Works Möbius you have a set of 3 different base packages (if you want to label them in that manner) to purchase a Möbius 1911, or you can build yourself a custom one to your exacting preferences. Those base packages are the Classic Stainless 1911 (MSRP $2,995), Two Tone 1911 (MSRP $2,995), and Classic Black 1911 (MSRP $2,995). The Classic Black Möbius 1911 is what our review handgun was built from as a launching off point. These are the standard specifications you could expect:
“The All Black Maintains a traditional look and feel in a black nitride frame and slide. All of the modern manufacturing techniques and metal treatments come together in the Classic Black to bring you high corrosion resistance and smooth operating.”
Some of the more custom options you can come to expect from the Vudoo Gun Works Möbius are ambidextrous features, modern optic cuts for the direct mounting of micro red dot sights, and much more.
When it comes to ordering a Vudoo Gun Works Möbius – or any of their firearms for that matter – they want you to have a stellar customer service experience (as well as owning an utterly top-tier firearm). Their custom ordering process on their website is meant to be easy so you can get a specifically made handgun that you’ll appreciate and put to use for years to come.
We intend to make your experience dealing with us here at Vudoo Gun Works as pleasant as possible. All you have to do is choose your basic model, grip and sight option and that’s it. Your new custom Vudoo 1911 comes with everything you need to be range ready including 2 magazines and a hard carrying case to get it shipped safely to you.
The Vudoo Gun Works Möbius has a stunning aesthetic which is immediately obvious, but the secret sauce behind this 1911 that sets it apart from all others is the assembly and manufacturing process. Yes, even that statement (the face of it) sounds like a marketing plug, but it is authentically true. We were able to meet with Vudoo Gun Works at SHOT Show 2023 to see this in-person before we ever began our review, and we were so “Wowed!” in the booth that we requested to play with one for an extended period of time.
Getting back to that secret sauce – those 23 herbs and spices that set it apart – what sets apart a Vudoo Gun Works 1911 from others is that the handgun is turned from the inside-and-out. Aerospace engineering machining processes are intelligently applied, absurdly tight tolerances are achieved, minimum hand-fitting is required, and this pistol runs like a precise machine (not a fickle firearm, but an exacting machine with impeccable reliability). Vudoo does a superb job of further explaining all of this in their YouTube video below:
Now, for the meat and potatoes: how did this gun shoot? We have had this pistol in our possession for the better part of this year; roughly 5 months. When it came to creating our custom version of the Vudoo Gun Works Möbius we chose to go with some of these specific upgrades or features:
One of the most striking features of this pistol is the trigger. It has a unique aesthetic and geometry that is attention-grabbing, but it is also the nicest trigger our staff has ever felt. Upon receiving this handgun into my gun shop (day job, gun manager… night job, gun writer) I let all of my staff dry-fire it. No handgun has ever come into our shop that left everyone speechless on the trigger. It’s sincerely that good. When I went to the range with a friend – he, too – remarked about how nice the trigger was.
Another external trait I appreciated was the heavy front slide serrations. A lot of the shooting I do is defense-orientated (IDPA-style, drawing from concealment, etc). So, I do a lot of press checks to see if I have a round in the chamber – rack the slide rearward by pulling on the front slide serrations with my non-dominant hand – before starting defense drills.
Within the same vein of shooting, I do a lot of magazine reloads whenever I am practicing/performing defense drills. So, the flared/beveled magwell helps with that greatly. You always want to “look your magazine into the gun,” but when you are trying to perform these weapon manipulations fast, that beveled magwell helps a lot.
Another small nuance that I liked in the Möbius was the aggressive texturing of the front strap, rear strap, and grip panels. Whenever I am shooting in Minnesota it seems like Mother Nature never cooperates. Some days its -20°F, other days its humid, rainy, too hot… you get the picture. So, a handgun that allows you to not just shoot it, but command it with strong stippling is awesome.
The last element you are likely wondering about is its accuracy. To test this, I brought with my friend, Alex – military veteran, pastor, father, arms aficionado. This man has played with more artillery than anyone I know and I cut him loose. I played around mounting red dots on other handguns, doing photography, BS-ing with other members of the gun club, and returned to check on him after ~20 minutes. His target looked like someone torpedoed it with a golf ball – one enormous hole in the center. When I asked him what he thought about it, he quipped, “shoots pretty good,” as he continued to reload another mag and dump it entirely inside his freshly perforated hole.
My eyebrows raised as I thought: “I need to try this thing, ASAP.” My group of 50+ rounds mirrored his, but not quite as small. We both walked away impressed by the accuracy. If you – the shooter – do your part, this is a hole-in-hole handgun all day long.
So, what are my final thoughts on the Vudoo Gun Works Möbius after shooting 500+ rounds through this handgun over the course of 5 months and having multiple people fire it?… This thing is a supercar. This is the Swiss Army Knife that drives like a Lamborghini. You have custom utility in the way you order it, and then with the way Vudoo crafts their 1911s, it is a sexy racecar. Between having at least a dozen people (besides myself) either dry-fire this or shoot it with me, none of us had a single negative remark except for the price (to which I’ll play devil’s advocate to myself). “Quality comes at a price.” This isn’t your daily driver. This isn’t a Honda Civic. This is a tactician’s tool that could win a league or commit to house-clearing duty. The MSRP of the Classic Black 1911 is $2,995 and with a selection of custom features this pistol punches in somewhere North of that.
So, is it worth it? Is it worth the asking price? In my mind, yes, if you use this hot rod. This should not be a safe queen. Feed it. Take it for walks. Flex on your friends and enjoy the startlingly good accuracy.
In closing, I want to say thank you to Vudoo Gun Works for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their Vudoo Gun Works Möbius Custom 1911. That is greatly appreciated. Also, we would like to know what all of you guys and gals think? Do you believe that the Vudoo Gun Works Möbius Custom 1911 is something worth spending your money on?
